The Case of the Bully & The Burglar
Introduction
It couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. Mr. Forsythe –Northside High School’s biology teacher, one of the most caring and well respected members of the school faculty, had his home broken into on a Sunday afternoon while cheering on the senior boys’ team at the high school volleyball finals.
The only thing that appeared to be missing was Mr. Forsythe’s laptop computer. However, his living room had been ransacked – milk and maple syrup from the fridge poured all over the carpet, and a dozen eggs smashed on his bookshelf and his big-screen TV.
Constable Cy Berkopp was called to the scene of the crime.
The perpetrator appeared to have entered through a basement window, which was broken with a large stone that was found on the basement floor. On a sharp edge of the broken glass, Constable Berkopp found a small amount of blood as well as a strand of purple fiber – possibly from an article of the thief’s clothing. He also found a number of shoeprints in the soil near the window, though none of them were distinguishable enough to create a cast of the tread pattern. Constable Berkopp observed that the soil in the garden was rather unusual in its colour and consistency.
